Jose Enrique Pedreira

Jose Enrique Pedreira, composer and pianist, was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico in 1904. He studied piano with Mme. Sicardo and later with Sigismond Stojowski, with whom he also studied composition. In New York City he studied at the Juilliard School where in 1948 he was awarded a prize in composition for Tus caricias. In addition, Pedreira edited and arranged a folio of definitive songs, Puerto Rico Sings, published by Marks. His works include two piano sonatas, Concerto for Piano and Orchestra in D Minor, Cantos de Espana and Etude de Concert. He passed away January 6, 1959.
